Stain removal tips
1.When (you or) your host child makes a spill, deal with a spill as quickly as possible.
2.Get as much of the substance off as you can. In most cases, this means rinsing it off with cold water, but if water is likely to spread the stain (we’re looking at you after school mud), try to brush it off or vacuum it up.
3.Pour a dash of stain remover or laundry liquid onto the stain. Massage it into delicate fabrics.
4.If it’s a new stain, get the clothing into the wash asap, with a biological laundry detergent containing enzymes to break down the stain. (If you’re tackling a really large stain or very muddy clothes, rinse them individually before you wash with other laundry.)
5. For older stains, try soaking the garment in cold water for a few hours first.
Shaving Cream – Got makeup on your shirt? Use a dollop of shaving cream, leave for a few minutes and then rub the material, rinse well with cold water. Repeat if needed. When you see the stain is gone wash the shirt like usual.
Distilled White Vinegar – This will help with tea/coffee, grass, tomato-based stains, sweat stains and much more! Very important, never use vinegar with bleach. Juice stains- Soak the garment in cold water for 30 minutes. Lightly apply white vinegar to the stain. Let it sit for another 30 minutes. Launder with bleach.
Baking soda- For greasy stain removals rinse or wipe off as much as you can, and then work a little baking soda into the stain before bunging everything in the washing machine. Messed some foundation on your clothes- Blot up any excess with a paper towel. Sprinkle baking soda onto foundation stains and scrub with a wet toothbrush. Messed wine on your carpet? Soak up as much wine as possible before pouring white vinegar onto the carpet. After 15 minutes, blot away excess vinegar. Sprinkle with baking soda and scrub at the stain with a wet toothbrush. Rinse.
Salt- With a blood stain rinse the stain with cold water and spread a paste made of salt and water onto it and rub it, wash it off and wash it again with cold water.
NB. An important last note: test any cleaning solution on a small patch, out of sight, to be sure the method is safe for your fabric.
I hope these hacks and hints helped you and when the next pesky stain arrives you will be prepared!
