Au Pair in Sweden - visa

Updated: Mar 21, 2023

Getting a visa done is sometimes a stressful process, luckily for you we are here to help!

The Swedish visa process is a lengthy process and waiting for a verdict may take up to 4 months since the appointment was attended. Though lengthy it is fairly easy. Before you attend the appointment, a few things have to be done and a couple of documents have to be gathered first.

The visa process formally starts once you have confirmed the match with your host family. They will get documentation ready on their side and our Visa Experts will give you all the needed documentation. It may take up to 3 weeks to gather the documentation.

Once we have issued you with the correct and needed documentation you will be assisted with the online visa application.

The total visa costs for Sweden are 1500 SEK (approx. R2700 at the time of print). Once your application and documentation has been handed in electronically, the wait for the verdict begins. In some cases, it takes two months to wait for the verdict, however it may take up to 4 months. You will be sent email, notifying you that your residence permit has been granted.

The next step in the process is to attend the visa appointment at the Swedish Embassy / consulate to do biometrics.

The appointment is attended in Pretoria, South Africa. Citizens of Namibia, and Botswana also have to attend their appointments in South Africa. Zimbabweans may attend the appointment in Harare, Zimbabwe.

Once the appointment has been attended there is a 2-4 week waiting period for the residence card to be issued. The Embassy prefers that you pick it up yourself however special arrangements can be made to have your residence permit couriered to you.

When you have received your residence permit, we can formally start to book your flights and then you are ready for departure!
